Match Report
Thunder suffered a disappointing defeat in their opening game of the new season.

Thunder started the game very brightly. The team had a good shape with all the boys showing they understood the roles they were given. Marcus was outstanding in this respect working tirelessly for the good of the team and "The Tank" was fully deserving his man-of-the match award. Thunder passed the ball well and it wasn't long before Rammy found the back of the net having earlier been unlucky to see a great shot hit the post. Thunder continued to work the ball well and when Rammy broke from midfield he slipped a great pass through to Georgie Boy who took the ball in his stride before smashing the ball home.

Slowly Thunder allowed Ladybridge back into the game as the boys lost some discipline and began chasing the goals and forgetting their responsibilities to the team. Thunder were unlucky to concede a goal when Samuel was injured making a brave save...unfortunately the ball fell to a Ladybridge player who put the ball into the open goal while "Hands" lay prostrate on the ground. All fans looked towards the ref in amazement as the goal was allowed to stand!! (sorry Adz!) Half time 2-1

In the second half Thunder lost concentration completely as Ladybridge took control of the game. Allowing themselves to be disrupted by a couple of substitutions the boys stopped passing the ball, forgot their positions and it was no surprise when Ladybridge equalised after a defensive error. Thunder rallied a little and were unlucky not to retake the lead when Gabe just failed to connect to a cross by Georgie Boy...parents in the crowd had flashbacks to Gazza in the Euro 96 semi against Germany! Another lapse in concentration resulted in the winner. With just 2 minutes to go a short corner found it's way into the box and the ball was scrambled in to the goal via the crossbar. Final score Thunder 2-3 Ladybridge.Man of the Match: Marcus.

A disappointing result for the team after such a great start to the game. The boys should think about the positive aspects of the first half. Sometimes in football we have to do the "dirty" jobs, that's keeping our positions, working hard to win the ball and marking our opponents. If we do these jobs well we can enjoy the feeling that winning as a team brings!

Come on Thunder...roll on Saturday
