Match Report
Four days after suffering a disappointing defeat in their opening league fixture Thunder travelled to Ramsbottom United.

The management team asked the boys to focus on the positive aspects of their last performance and were asked to make their given role in the team their primary objective. Every single player showed tremendous discipline in this and as a result the whole team reaped the benefits.

Thunder started the game well. Georgie Boy was running riot down the left side of midfield, Gabe looked like scoring every time he had the ball. Danny and The Tank were solid in midfield while Paddy and Beckenbauer showed great intelligence with their defensive play. The first half was a competitive affair, although most of the play saw Thunder on the attack. A great save by the Ramsbottom keeper was topped by a great save from Hands, leaping to his right to palm away a fierce shot. Tom the Bomb and Rammy came on and both did their jobs allowing Thunder to keep in the ascendency. Thunder took a deserved lead when Gabe collected the ball before weaving his way through the defence and beating the keeper with a cool shot. Thunder continued to press and Gabe cut in from the left and smashed an unstoppable shot from a tight angle that flew across the keeper into the top corner for a goal that Drogba would have been proud of. Half-time 2-0.

The second half became more of an end to end affair as the boys tired a little. Danny shocked everyone by placing a first time shot from 10 yards past the keeper and into the top corner after good approach play down the left hand side...it seems the goal poacher extraordinaire can score goals from more than two inches! Further chances went begging with Gabe, Georgie boy, Rammy and The Tank all having shots on goal. However, it was not all attack from Thunder and as the game wore on Ramsbottom created several chances which allowed Hands to display his full repertoire of goalkeeping skills. We saw safe handling, brave blocks but everyone watching could only be impressed by the array of flying saves...left, right, high and low...Samuel was equal to them all and on at least 5 occasions certain goals were saved. Gabe completed a deserved hat-trick by placing a shot past the keeper from the centre of the goal area. Final Score Ramsbottom United 0 - Thunder 4

A tremendous team performance from the boys today. Every single player contributing to a hard fought and fully deserved victory. It is difficult to pick out individual performances but a special mention to Hands for an excellent performance in goal and to Gabe, whose hat-trick won him the man-of -the-match award.

Well done EVERYONE...the standard has been set!
