Match Report
Conditions - raining and muddy underfoot Half Time - 2 v 1 Full Time - 4 v 1 Starting line up - Liam (GK), Matthew (left back), Jack (right back), Henry (sweeper/midfield), David (left midfield), Daniel (right midfield), Jo (right winger), Will (left winger), Ashley (forward). Subs - Curtis, Arraon, Ashley Commentary Adlington went into this game as league leaders, with 5 games won and only 1 lost, to put them 3 points clear of their nearest rivals. The Diamonds however grinded out a thoroughly deserved victory, to put them now only 3 points behind the hosts. The game was characterised by fine (but very wetting!) rain throughout. Will was able to open the visitors account after only 5 minutes and admittedly very much against the run of play with Adlington initially having all the possession and pressure. A break away from Dan led to a perfectly weighted pass to Will who was clear on goal with only the 'keeper to beat, it looked like he'd taken it too far however he safely rounded the no 1 to tuck the bal away nicely from 8 yards. The second goal came from a corner 10 minutes later, with Jo firing in a well taken half volley. With 7 minutes to go before half time, Adlington piled on the pressure and their big No8 got in the box only for Liam to save from him and them both end up on the floor. Inexplicably the referee gave a penalty, which was well tucked away by their no 7. The Diamonds held on to half time, with some excellent play by Bromley Cross's very own Yorkshire Terrier - Jack. The second half started off with the same team, however shortly after the break Arron was put on to replace the ever lively Jo and it wasn't long before his influence was felt - 10 minutes into the second half he fired a low shot towards goal, which took a slight deflection and in - for Arram to chalk up another goal to hisw ever increasing collection. Daniel took a free kick on the left, 10 yards from Adlington's goal - the ball was fired out only for Dan to hit a low driller, which fooled everyone including the 'keeper, tucking itself into the other corner of the net, to take the game beyond reach of the hosts. Man of the match had to go to Jack, who didn't put a foot wrong all day, holding his position well and breaking down attacks time after time, second goes to Mason, who although he was only on for half the game was very lively and committed up front and on another day would have bagged a couple for his efforts and third to Arran fo another good display, taking a fine goal and making some excellent crosses. Having said all this it really was an excellent team performance with all contributing without exception. Next scheduled league game is Daisy Hill Vipers at home after the half term break
